The Main House

Corinda is different. Julian’s great great grandfather, Alfred Crisp, built this magnificent private house – one of the prosperous State capital’s grandest – in the late 1870s. Some 150 years later, his visitor-friendly family home and its lavish gardens are still very much as he left them.

Well, sort of. Look closely and you’ll see subtle changes that bring Corinda firmly into the 21st century. There’s free wi-fi connectivity and flat screen TV, of course, with huge antique cast iron radiators spreading warmth into every cranny. Our Vintage bathrooms may look quaint, but the plumbing is right up to date and you’ll find piping hot water, soft cotton towels, Millie Organics soaps and unusual Tasmanian beauty products to pamper you at bedtime. One that is inspired by – and mindful of – Tasmania’s culture and environment while offering an experience designed to surprise and delight modern travelers.

When the time comes for breakfast we’re sure our free range eggs, thinly sliced grilled bacon, home baked bread and freshly made fruit salads and juices, will prove irresistible. Breakfast is prepared to order and served on the Verandah downstairs. T2 Tea and Villino coffee, the coffee freshly roasted right here in Hobart, are available in each bedroom to save you ringing for the chambermaid.

Head over to the Drawing Room anytime and enjoy a drink at honesty bar – we have a quirky range of interesting drinks as well as a great range of pre-mixed cocktails that you can pour yourself.

The Garden

Covering close to an acre, Corinda boasts one of the finest private gardens in the whole of Tasmania. Laid out in a series of “rooms”, or compartments, defined by yew and box hedges with antique urns, delightful topiary figures of native animals and tiers of espalier limes, it is richly planted to provide color and botanical interest throughout the year.

A magnificent Magnolia tree, more than 100 years old, is floodlit at night and visible for miles around.

The garden won a major National Trust Award in 1995.

Since these are private gardens it’s not possible to just turn up. So do book with us in advance, hurry … minimum of 8 people for tours.

Our food philosophy is simple. We love using fresh Tasmanian ingredients in imaginative ways. Our passionate and talented chef Gina prepares everything inhouse. We source all of our fresh ingredients either from our garden or from local producers we trust. To ensure the quality of the dining experience, we only host 18 seats each Saturday, so hurry …

Due to the nature of the experience unfortunately we are unable to cater to major dietary requests. Small alterations may be able to be made on a case-by-case basis (for example pescatarians are acceptable, and low gluten diets can be accommodated but we are unable to cater to vegetarians, vegans, celiacs, FOD map, & dairy free guests).

What do people say?

The Corinda Collection is a jewel of a place, a historical property with a fantastic garden, a fully stocked honesty bar, antique furnishings and comfortable beds, truly one of the most magical places we’ve stayed. Also, the breakfast was fantastic! We fell in love with this property and can’t wait to return!

It’s a magnificent property and extremely comfortable. We stayed in Samuel Crisp’s room. The gardens are excellent and the owners and staff are lovely. One small defect is that the hot water pressure is poor, at least on the second floor, so one has to put up with somewhat anaemic showers.

We enjoyed the warm hospitality extended to us at Corinda, the home and gardens are extraordinary

Charming historic colonial accommodation at its best in a handy location, so close to Hobart CBD, wharf and North Hobart’s Elizabeth Street.
Attention to detail with every comfort on hand. Enjoy drinks on the verandah anytime and soak up sweeping views of the Derwent, Mount Wellington and Hobart city.

My husband and I stayed here for a few nights on our honeymoon and absolutely loved our stay. We were given a bottle of beautiful wine on arrival for booking directly through Corinda as well. The property has so much character and it was a lovely experience. We stayed in the gardeners cottage which had a wood fireplace inside. Thanks Julian.

It was an amazing experience for us like we have time travelled. Every corner of our little cottage was full of charm. Honesty bar was full of surprises! The breakfast on the main house was very enjoyable too. We would love to visit again and again.

Sajjad F

We were absolutely delighted with Corinda, especially the Mary spoke room. Claw foot bath was so relaxing after our long hike. Bountiful delicious breakfast and beautiful garden setting. We will come from Melbourne again.

We had read excellent reviews of Corinda but our stay in the Wellington Suite far exceeded our expectations. The house, the room and the amazing gardens are just perfect – it is an oasis of tranquility a stones throw from city attractions. Breakfast was delicious and we appreciated Julian’s friendly morning chats.

We enjoyed the warm hospitality extended to us at Corinda, the home and gardens are extraordinary and beautifully curated with an interesting history. The breakfast generous and fresh. We will be back.

We had a lot of activities planned in Hobart, so we didn’t get to spend as much time there as we’ve liked, but they’ve clearly put a thought into renovating this historical property to make it modern and comfortable, while still clearly architecturally sensitive. The gardens were gorgeous; the honour bar was a treat for an afternoon break; the verandah was a nice spot to enjoy the aforementioned treats; and the breakfast was great.

The Verandah Room was amazing with beautiful furnishings and the bed was super comfortable. The bathroom was very spacious as was the shower and it had stunning views over Hobart and the harbour. It was so quiet and peaceful and the room had access to the verandah which provided views over the beautifully landscaped garden. Julian cooked a delicious breakfast which sustained me for most of the day.

I spent 2 nights at Mary Spode’s room and it was such a delightful experience. The bedroom was Luxurious, spacious and delicately decorated. Every single detail in the room has its own story. The bed was super comfortable and the bathroom very fancy and elegant, with a huge bathtub. The breakfast was delicious, everything on the menu was made with local produce. it was just perfect! Very friendly and warm staff.
